Join the Programme

Social-Impact will accept applications for its Hyderabad training programme through April 26, 2008. Between 15 and 18 social entrepreneurs will be selected to participate in the two-year long training programme. Space for the 2008 cohort is limited and the cohort will be filled on a rolling basis.

High quality candidates will be selected through a competitive process that includes a written application, a site visit and reference checks. Qualified candidates will have a track record of measurable success in implementing the project or program, a strong desire and vision to replicate or scale, and a sustainable business concept. Services will be rendered at a cost of Rs. 20,000 to each participant. Scholarships will be available to eligible applicants.

Social entrepreneurs interested in participating in the programme can apply via email, postal mail or submit their application in-person at the Social-Impact office in Hyderabad (see How to Apply). Applicants must first review the Eligibility Criteria before completing the application. Also please keep in mind that the success of the programme depends upon not only the social entrepreneurs' passion for accelerating the growth of their ventures, but their commitment to the programme schedule.

Eligibility Criteria
Social-Impact will accept applications from qualifying individuals and organizations meeting the following criteria:

Geography: Must be living and operating a social enterprise or social-purpose organization within India.

Organization Structure: Selected participants will be working within a legally registered NGO, social enterprise, business, government agency or an academic institution. Socially-oriented businesses, as well as social-purpose organizations with earned income, are particularly encouraged to apply. Social-Impact plans to have one-third of the 2008 cohort to be constituted of organizations that have significant earned income.

Track Record: Must have already demonstrated measurable success in implementing the project or program for three years or more and have a strong desire and vision to replicate or scale the program. This programme will not support start-up ideas or individuals with little or no experience in addressing critical social issues as a profession.

Sector or Area of Service: Demonstrate a clear commitment to issues such as health, education, urban/rural livelihoods promotion, peace and security, human rights, community infrastructure, rural development, women/child issues, poverty alleviation, technologies to benefit society, etc. This programme will not accept organizations that are providing only micro-finance services to beneficiaries and clients.

Availability/Commitment: Must be available to commit on average at least 3 days per month to the Social-Impact programme activities as well as attend quarterly week-long sessions of full-time group training over the course of 24 months. Must be committed to dedicating the organization's resources to the goal of replication or scaling current activities.

Background/ Skills: Must speak/write in English and have basic computer skills. Social-Impact does not place preference for selection on gender, religion, socio-economic background or education level. We do place a preference on social entrepreneurs who come from the regions or communities they are serving.

Ideal Characteristics: The individual must have a clear mission and show evidence of entrepreneurship; integrity; leadership; creativity; a flexible approach to solving problems and working with others; a deep understanding of the market being served; expertise in operating within the region; and be working within an organization with financial sustainability; a committed board; and an overall commitment to transparency and accountability.

How to Apply
Social Impact's professional development programme offers training, mentoring, networking opportunities and access to financial support to help successful social entrepreneurs advance to the next level in pursuit of their vision. These unique services will be delivered and supported in collaboration with leading local, state and national practitioners and mentors. Social-Impact's programme requires a serious time commitment from selected social entrepreneurs, and ultimately enables them to effectively ramp up and scale their social ventures. Between fifteen and eighteen talented individuals will be selected to participate in the 2008 professional development programme in Hyderabad, India.

Selection Process
Social-Impact staff and selection committee will review the applications and contact finalist candidates by May 1, 2008. Finalists will have the opportunity to provide additional information to support their candidacy during the review.
