Eligibility Criteria
Social-Impact will accept applications from qualifying individuals and organizations meeting the following criteria:
Geography:
Must be living and operating a social enterprise or social-purpose organization within India.
Organization Structure:
Selected participants will be working within a legally registered NGO, social enterprise, business, government agency or an academic institution. Socially-oriented businesses, as well as social-purpose organizations with earned income, are particularly encouraged to apply. Social-Impact plans to have one-third of the 2008 cohort to be constituted of organizations that have significant earned income.
Track Record:
Must have already demonstrated measurable success in implementing the project or program for three years or more and have a strong desire and vision to replicate or scale the program. This programme will not support start-up ideas or individuals with little or no experience in addressing critical social issues as a profession.
Sector or Area of Service:
Demonstrate a clear commitment to issues such as health, education, urban/rural livelihoods promotion, peace and security, human rights, community infrastructure, rural development, women/child issues, poverty alleviation, technologies to benefit society, etc. This programme will not accept organizations that are providing only micro-finance services to beneficiaries and clients.
Availability/Commitment:
Must be available to commit on average at least 3 days per month to the Social-Impact programme activities as well as attend quarterly week-long sessions of full-time group training over the course of 24 months. Must be committed to dedicating the organization's resources to the goal of replication or scaling current activities.
Background/ Skills:
Must speak/write in English and have basic computer skills. Social-Impact does not place preference for selection on gender, religion, socio-economic background or education level. We do place a preference on social entrepreneurs who come from the regions or communities they are serving.
Ideal Characteristics:
The individual must have a clear mission and show evidence of entrepreneurship; integrity; leadership; creativity; a flexible approach to solving problems and working with others; a deep understanding of the market being served; expertise in operating within the region; and be working within an organization with financial sustainability; a committed board; and an overall commitment to transparency and accountability.
